The Route and Why This Order

This route links Kemer's coastal and ancient-city stops with the Lycian cities of Kumluca to the south; a car is needed given the distance. It begins at Kemer Marina — one of Turkey's first operating marinas, making a practical starting point for breakfast or a break before the long drive south. From there, head to Phaselis Ancient City — this three-harbor Lycian city is planned as the day's first major stop, scheduled for the morning before the heat sets in. South of Phaselis lies Yanartaş; placing it mid-route reflects the fact that while the flames are most striking at dusk, a daytime visit is also safer for the stepped walk up. Çıralı Beach, right nearby, offers a short seaside break — a natural rest after the climb to Yanartaş. The route continues into Kumluca district with Olympos and Rhodiapolis; both being important cities of the Lycian League, they're planned back to back, with Olympos's church frescoes and Rhodiapolis's Opramoas tomb and hospital complex forming the day's historic finale.

The total distance between stops is about 59 km; the route fills a day of roughly 6-7 hours. The ancient cities are explored on foot; the stepped path up to Yanartaş takes roughly 30-40 minutes.

Best Time to Go

It's best to visit shadeless sites like Phaselis and Rhodiapolis in the morning. Travelers who want to see Yanartaş at dusk can run the route in reverse and end the day there instead — the flames are far more vivid after dark.
